If you are looking for a relaxing vacation with luscious rainforests and beautiful beaches in Malaysia, then Langkawi is the place for you. This island is perfect when you need some time away from the busy cities. You can observe stunning sunrises over the Andaman Sea, enjoy a variety of activities, or simply relax.
You can spend anywhere from 2 to 7 days in Langkawi, depending on the places you want to explore and how fast, slow, or packed you want your trip to be. This itinerary covers a 2-day trip, highlighting the must-do activities. I’ll also provide tips along the way on how you could spend more time on the island.
Day 1: Landing and Relaxing
After you arrive on the island, you can either head straight to the beach to relax or walk around the town, do some shopping, and grab food. You can also do both, depending on your arrival time and how you are feeling.
Day 2: Panorama Langkawi
On your first full day, start by visiting Panorama Langkawi. The best time to go is in the morning to avoid the crowd and the heat.
There are 10 attractions, and the ticket prices depend on which ones you want to visit. The SkyCab is definitely a must-see, as well as the SkyBridge. The views from these two places are absolutely unreal. To go to the Eagle’s Nest SkyWalk, you will need a ticket, but you can still get off at the area without purchasing a ticket to get a similar view.
The SkyCab takes you to an area where you can either take a SkyGlide to the SkyBridge or walk. The walk is narrow and steep at the beginning, and then there are stairs at the end, making the return trip harder than getting there. You can purchase SkyGlide tickets for both ways or just one way; I recommend purchasing the return ticket. The SkyBridge is the longest curved suspension bridge and is a must-see.
The 3D Art Langkawi is a gallery with a series of realistic paintings. There is also a show at the end where all the art comes to life. I enjoyed this place much more than I expected and definitely recommend it. The SkyRex is a short 3D experience and would be great for dinosaur lovers.
If you are short on time, I would recommend skipping the SkyDome. Other attractions you can skip depend on your interests. If you enjoy an immersive experience, don’t skip SkyRex; if you like art, don’t skip 3D art.
You can either finish all the activities in one go and then grab food or get food in between at the Oriental Village, where you can also pick up souvenirs.
For the rest of the day, you can plan to book one of the water activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, or snorkeling. If you prefer to relax, head to the beach and grab food at one of the nearby restaurants. There are fire shows held every day from 8 PM, so you can plan that into one of your days.
Day 3: Road Trip
For your second day, rent a car and drive around the island. Langkawi has scenic drives that pass by different attractions. Drive along the coast, take in the views, and stop at shops to buy fruits and snacks.
During the road trip, you can visit:
– Langkawi Wildlife Park
– Kilim Geoforest Park
– Durian Perangin Waterfalls
– Tanjung Rhu Beach
– Gunung Raya
Any of these attractions can be visited on a different day if you plan to stay longer. You can also do the road trip without stopping at these destinations, but they will help you cover most of the island.
Since you have a rental car, you can visit some attractions in Kuah. You can view Eagle Square and visit Legenda Park. Eagle Square is currently closed, but you can view it from afar from the park.
Grab food at one of the restaurants in Kuah, then head to Legenda Park. The park is serene and beautiful, and you can spend some time here just sitting and relaxing by the water. The park is filled with towering trees, providing ample shade for a pleasant walk. Half of the walk around the park features different sculptures that tell stories, and the other half is by the water.
You can also visit the Maha Tower, which can be viewed from the park. These three attractions are very close to each other, so you can cover them all at once.
Day 4: Departure
On your last day, spend your time as you wish, depending on when your flight is.
Longer Trip
If you plan to spend more time on the island, you can spread out the attractions mentioned on Day 3 and have slow, relaxing days. You can also book an island-hopping tour or visit Crocodile Adventureland Langkawi.
Where to Stay
Between Kuah and Kedawang, I recommend staying in Kedawang. Kedawang is a quieter part of the island and close to the beach, making for a much more relaxing stay. If you prefer to stay in town, then Kuah would be the place for you. The airport and many attractions are also closer to the Kedawang area than Kuah.
Things to Note
– Parking: There are places where you need to pay for parking, and some areas require payment through an app.
– Early Starts: Always try to start your day early to avoid both heat and crowds.
